Kalikasthan Day Hike: A Short Hike From Begnas Lake

The Kalikasthan hike is a day trip, so no overnight accommodation is needed. We pick you up from your hotel in Pokhara in the morning and drop you back in the evening.

We stop for lunch at a local eatery along the route, where you can try a Nepali dal bhat set or fresh fish from Begnas Lake. Please carry drinking water and a few snacks for the walk. If you would like to spend a night in the hills, we can extend the hike into the Royal Trek with teahouse stays in Gurung villages.

This is an easy trek that can be done by people of almost all age groups. The trek can be done in any season of the year. Even people without any prior trekking experience can do this short day hike. 

Most of the Hike on the periphery of Pokhara valley offers a tranquil view of the serene Fewa Lake. Different from that, this trek grants an opportunity to gawk at the equally famed Begnas lake and Rupa lake.

Along the hike, we are encompassed by terraced fields, farmlands, lush vegetation and scattered settlements. This trek is hugely dominated by the Gurungs however, we can find locals of other ethnic groups in some villages. Also, we can savour the local cuisines while gazing at the majestic Himalayas like Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Machhapuchhre, and other mountains of the Annapurna region.

Moreover, after the completion, we can opt to do boating in Begnas lake. However, Rupa lake doesn't offer any kind of services.

The Kalikasthan hike can be done all year. October to November and March to April are the best months, with clear views of Annapurna and Machhapuchhre from the ridge and pleasant walking weather.

Winter is dry and sunny, and a good time for quiet trails. During the monsoon (June to September) the trail can be slippery, but the rice terraces and hills around Begnas Lake are at their greenest.
