Chasing the Dawn: Nagarkot Sunrise Tour

The clearest sunrise views from Nagarkot (2,175 m) are from October to April. Autumn is the best season, with crisp skies over the Langtang and Ganesh Himal ranges; winter is equally clear but cold before dawn.

In late spring, haze can reduce visibility, and during the monsoon (June to September) the mountains are often hidden by cloud, although the valley views and Bhaktapur visit are still worthwhile.

On a clear morning, the sunrise lights up a wide stretch of the Himalaya, including Ganesh Himal, Langtang and Dorje Lakpa, with Everest visible far to the east on very clear days.

After sunrise and breakfast, we drive down to Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a beautifully preserved medieval Newar city with pagoda temples, carved palaces and pottery squares. The Bhaktapur entrance fee for foreign visitors is paid on the day.
