OVERVIEW & HIGHLIGHTS
Bhutan is the last Buddhist country located between India and China. “Druk Yul,” which translates to “Land of Thunder Dragon,” is the true “Shangri-La” in the distant land of the Himalayas. This “forbidden kingdom” is the land of myths and legends. This tiny, isolated Buddhist Kingdom has been an example of saving its authenticity while moving forward in modernity.
Governed by Buddhist norms and values, Bhutan has lived a harmonious life with people, nature, and culture. This spiritual kingdom, rich in its every nuance, welcomes you with its snow-capped mountains, captivating sceneries, ancient Buddhist monasteries, several Oldest Dzongs (fortresses), and vibrant festivals.
Mohan Raj Bhandari, Founder/Managing director
I founded North Nepal Trek in 2015, and Bhutan has always been a special addition to our Himalayan portfolio — a kingdom that has protected its culture and landscapes so deliberately. Our guide Mohan Bhandari has coordinated this exact 4 Night 5 Days itinerary for travelers many times, from the Thimphu valley sightseeing to the hike up to Paro Taktsang (Tiger's Nest Monastery), and she has a gift for pacing the trip so guests never feel rushed through the dzongs and monasteries.
After a delicious breakfast, we will start our journey to Punakha, the previous capital of Bhutan. We will travel through Dochula. It’s a mountain pass where you can see 108 memorial stupas on your travel in Bhutan tours.
Known as “Druk Wangyal Chortens”. Since you will arrive at an altitude of 3100m, you will be blessed with a 360-degree view of the Himalayas and the swinging prayer flags.
Continuing the journey to Punakha, we will stop by Chimi Lhakhang. Known as the temple of fertility. Locals have deep faith in this monastery.
In your Bhutan trek tours, you will see many locals in the shrine. People come from the nook and corner to receive blessings from the Lama. Similarly, we will explore paddy fields and villages, which involve a 15-minute ride from the monastery.
Later, visit the grand Punakha Dzong, an epitome of marvelous architecture that features intricate designs and grandness.
It is the second largest Dzong (fortress) built on the banks of the Mo Chhu and Po Chhu rivers. Never, ever skip Punakha Dzong in your travel to Bhutan. Punakha Dzong. Then we will cross the nearby Suspension Bridge to witness a thrilling experience and panoramic views of the Punakha Valley. After wandering around the valley, we will spend the night, enjoy a delightful dinner, and unwind at the hotel in Punakha.
Begin your morning with a delightful breakfast at the Punakha Hotel, bidding farewell to the charming town.
The journey of Paro traverses you on the scenic highway, a pleasing treat to your eye. Along the way, we will stop at Simtokha Dzong, another ancient and cultural must-visit landmark in your Bhutantreks tours. It is the oldest Dzong, built in the 17th century, which intertwines the spiritual, strategic, and historical aspects of Bhutan.
Simtokha Dzong now serves as the School of Buddhist Studies to pass on the Buddhist philosophy to future generations.
Upon your arrival in Paro, the town embraces you with open arms. Rest yourself in your chosen room for the next unfolding adventure.
After lunch, we will explore Ta Dzong. Once the place to train militants and store artillery during the war, it now serves as the cultural and historical hub of Bhutan. It’s the National Museum with its extensive collection of Thangka paintings, textiles, weapons, and more. It’s a must-visit place in your tour plan for Bhutan. A brisk walk down the trail takes you to Rinpung Dzong. It used to be a safe place during the time of the Tibetan invasion. Now serves as a house for the monastic body and administrative office.
As the Kingdom fades with the shades of dusk, we will rest at the hotel in Paro. The delightful excursion in the beauty of naturally and culturally rich places of Bhutan is sure to give you a sound sleep. Hold yourself for the magic and adventure that the “Land of the Thunder” has to offer tomorrow.
After breakfast, we will start our journey to Punakha to the iconic sacred site - Paro Taktsang Monastery. This monastery is sure to remain an unbelievable hike during Bhutan hiking tours.
You will walk for a 5-hour to one of the astonishing landmarks of Bhutan. It lies attached to the cliff 900 meters above the Paro Valley. It is also known as “Tiger’s Nest”. There’s a story behind this moniker. Guru Padmasambhava came into this place by riding on the back of a Tigress. Mediated and learned Vajrayana. A Tantric Buddhism.
In the year 1998, Paro Taktsang Monastery was damaged by fire. Its main building was badly damaged. This marvelous architecture was restored to its original form in 2005 and opened for visitors. This spiritual grandeur has been standing strong, resisting earthquakes, war, and fire since its establishment.
As the kingdom transitions into dusk, indulge in the Main Street and market area. Permit yourself to enjoy fleeting moments around the city. Enjoy every moment on the last day of the Bhutantreks tour. Each step unveils a tapestry of Bhutanese life and culture, creating unforgettable memories that last forever. After wandering around the street, enjoy a delightful dinner and comfort in the cozy rooms at the hotel in Paro.

Travelers with heart or respiratory conditions should consult a doctor before booking, and comfortable walking shoes are recommended for the Tiger's Nest hike.
