Best Time for Rafting in Nepal

The season you choose changes the river more than anything else.

Autumn (September to November)

The main rafting season. Rivers are full after the monsoon, the rapids are lively and the weather is clear. Early autumn water is high and exciting; by November it becomes more moderate.

Spring (March to May)

Warm weather and lower water levels. Rapids are more technical and less pushy, which suits beginners and families on most rivers.

Winter (December to February)

Cold water and short days. Easier rivers such as the Lower Seti and Trishuli still run, and a wetsuit is recommended.

Monsoon (June to August)

Very high water. Many sections are closed or only run as short, graded-up trips for experienced paddlers, and all trips depend on daily river checks.

Choosing Your River

We run five rivers from Pokhara and Kathmandu, from gentle family floats to serious white water:

  • Upper Seti: half-day, Class III–IV, starts 30 minutes from Pokhara Lakeside
  • Trishuli: one day, Class III–IV, on the Kathmandu–Pokhara highway at Charaundi
  • Lower Seti: two days with riverside camping, Class II–III, beginner and family friendly
  • Kali Gandaki: multi-day with beach camping, Class III+/IV, through one of the world's deepest gorges
  • Marsyangdi: two days, Class IV–V, continuous technical rapids for experienced rafters

Not sure which to pick? Tell us your experience, dates and travel route, and we will recommend the best river for you.

What to Wear & Bring for Rafting

  • Swimwear, a towel and a full change of clothes for after the trip
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses with a strap and a cap
  • A small dry bag for valuables; cameras should go in the waterproof barrels provided
  • Any personal medication

Safety Policy

Professional & Certified River Guides

Every rafting trip we organize is led by experienced, licensed, English-speaking river guides who are expert swimmers, trained in swiftwater rescue, river navigation, and first-aid response. Your guides carry well-stocked medical kits and ensure all participants are properly fitted with high-quality safety gear, including secure helmets, dependable life jackets, and self-bailing rafts, before hitting the water.

Pre-Trip Briefing & Safety Protocols

Whichever river you choose, every trip starts with a thorough safety briefing and a dedicated practice session at the put-in point. Our guides cover essential paddling techniques, commands, and what to do in case of a swim, and they check the day's river level before launching.

Emergency Response & Logistics

In the rare event of an injury or unexpected river emergency, our guides are equipped to manage immediate first-aid and coordinate swift evacuation support. Direct communication lines are maintained with our Pokhara and Kathmandu office to ensure quick on-ground logistics and coordination with local emergency services if needed.

Participant Preparedness & Insurance

While whitewater rafting is an incredible thrill, safety starts with personal readiness and choosing the right river for your experience. We recommend that participants are comfortable in the water and inform us of any relevant medical conditions beforehand. Comprehensive travel insurance covering adventure sports and whitewater rafting is always encouraged for total peace of mind.
