Best Time for Marsyangdi River Rafting

The best time is September to November, especially from mid-October as the water settles into its best range for continuous, technical rapids. Spring (March to May) also offers good trips with lower water.

The Marsyangdi is not run during the monsoon, when the river is too high and powerful.

How Hard is Marsyangdi River Rafting?

The Marsyangdi is one of Nepal's most demanding rafting rivers, with continuous Class IV–V rapids and very little flat water between them. It is recommended for fit rafters with previous white-water experience.

You should be a confident swimmer, able to paddle hard for long periods and follow your guide's commands instantly. The trip starts at Bhulbhule, about 3.5 hours from Pokhara, and ends at Turture after two days on the river.

What to Wear & Bring for Marsyangdi Rafting

  • Quick-dry shorts and a T-shirt or rash vest (no cotton jeans)
  • Sport sandals with straps, or old shoes that can get wet and stay on your feet
  • Swimwear, a towel and a full change of clothes for after the trip
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses with a strap and a cap
  • A small dry bag for valuables; cameras should go in the waterproof barrels provided
  • Any personal medication

For the overnight camp, also bring warm clothes for the evening, a headlamp or torch, and toiletries.

Safety Policy

Professional & Certified River Guides

Every Marsyangdi trip is led by experienced, licensed, English-speaking river guides who are expert swimmers, trained in swiftwater rescue, river navigation, and first-aid response on Class IV–V white water. Your guides carry well-stocked medical kits and ensure all participants are properly fitted with high-quality safety gear, including secure helmets, dependable life jackets, and self-bailing rafts. Safety kayakers accompany every trip, and major rapids are scouted before they are run.

Pre-Trip Briefing & Safety Protocols

Before embarking on the rapids, every trip starts with a thorough safety briefing and a dedicated practice session right at the put-in point in Bhulbhule. Our guides cover essential paddling techniques, commands, and what to do in case of a swim, ensuring everyone feels confident and prepared for continuous, technical rapids.

Emergency Response & Logistics

In the rare event of an injury or unexpected river emergency, our guides are equipped to manage immediate first-aid and coordinate swift evacuation support. Direct communication lines are maintained with our Pokhara and Kathmandu office to ensure quick on-ground logistics and coordination with local emergency services if needed.

Participant Preparedness & Insurance

The Marsyangdi is one of Nepal's most demanding rivers, so personal readiness matters. Participants should be confident swimmers, physically fit, and ideally have previous rafting experience, and should inform us of any relevant medical conditions beforehand. Comprehensive travel insurance covering adventure sports and whitewater rafting is always encouraged for total peace of mind.
