It is one of the most popular trekking places among the Annapurna circuit trek, Mardi Himal Trek, Manaslu with Tsum Valley Trek, and so on. This trek can be combined with the Annapurna Base Camp trek. During the trek, we will pass across Modi Khola from Kyumi to the beautiful village of Ghandruk. The major attraction of Ghandruk is the distinctive culture of the Gurungs.
They will entertain visitors with their traditional dances and also offer them ethnic dresses and ornaments. Moreover, the local cuisines are also popular among tourists who love the unique taste and flavour. Additionally, you can experience horse riding in the village and snow during winter on the upper hill.
Balaram Giri, Assistant Guide
Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek pacing and route knowledge come from years guiding this classic Annapurna trail. Mohan founded North Nepal Trek in 2015; since then, Balaram Giri has led multiple treks through Ulleri, Ghorepani, and up to the Poon Hill viewpoint itself.
We start our second day with breakfast in Ulleri. Today's walk is more accessible than yesterday's climb. We leave Ulleri and pass through Banthanti village. Then we enter an enormous forest full of rhododendron trees. These trees have beautiful red, pink, and white flowers in spring.

As we walk, we see and hear small waterfalls. The sound of water makes our walk more pleasant. After walking for about 3.5 hours, we reach Nangethanti. This is where we stop for lunch. Nangethanti is a small place right in the middle of the forest. We eat, rest, and talk with other trekkers here.
After lunch, we walked for 2 more hours to reach Ghorepani. Ghorepani is at 2,850 meters high. When we get there, we check in at another ACAP post. This helps keep track of trekkers and protects the area.
Ghorepani is a prominent, busy place. It's much bigger than the other villages we've seen. There are many hotels, shops, cafes, and stores here. We can buy food, clothes, and souvenirs. We stay at one of the best hotels in Ghorepani. Many hotels here have great views of the mountains from their balconies.
In the evening, we walk around the village market. We see local people and many other trekkers. It's interesting to see how trekking has changed this mountain village.
After dinner, we sit near a wood heater to stay warm. It gets cold at night here. We talk about our plans for tomorrow. Usually, this includes waking up early to climb Poon Hill and see the sunrise over the big mountains.
This day gives us a mix of nature walks, village life, and time to rest. It also helps our bodies get used to being higher up in the mountains, which is essential for the rest of our trek.
We wake up very early, at 4:30 am, to go to Poon Hill viewpoint. It takes about 45 minutes to get there. The path is steep with many stairs. We climb from 2,850 meters to 3,210 meters.

We bring water, trekking poles, and headlights with us. During the busy season, we see many other people going up too.
At the top, we watch the beautiful sunrise. We see big mountains like Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Machapuchhre, and Nilgiri, so the view is amazing.
After enjoying the sunrise and mountain views, we went back to our hotel for breakfast. This gives us energy for our day's trek.
Today we walk to Tadapani, where we'll stay tonight. The whole trek takes about 6 hours. On the way, we will stop for lunch at a place called Banthanti.
We walk through more forests and see more great views. The path goes up and down.
Finally, we will reach Tadapani. It's situated at an altitude of 2,700 meters. Tadapani is in a very pretty spot, and we can see more beautiful mountain views from here.
We will stay the night in Tadapani. It's an excellent place to rest after our early morning climb and a long day of walking. We can relax and enjoy the peaceful mountain surroundings.
This day gives us a mix of exciting views, good exercise, and time in nature. It's a full day that shows us many different parts of the Annapurna region.
We wake up in Tadapani to a beautiful sunrise. From our balcony, we enjoy stunning views of the mountains. After breakfast, we start walking. Today's path is pleasant and easy. We descend through lush green forests teeming with plants and animals. It takes us about three hours of downhill walking to reach Ghandruk from Tadapani.

Ghandruk is a picturesque village inhabited primarily by the Gurung people, one of Nepal's ethnic groups. This village is one of the most significant Gurung communities in the region. Upon arriving in Ghandruk, we explore the village, its culture, and its welcoming residents. A visit to the Gurung Museum offers an insightful glimpse into their rich heritage.
The village is delightful to explore, with its traditional houses and friendly locals. The mountain views from here remain breathtaking.
After exploring the village and having lunch, we hiked down to Kilyu via classic trekking trails. This section is just before Ghandruk connects to the road, where our car will pick us up to drive back to Pokhara. The drive will take approximately two hours.

Safe, Professional, Personal and Memorable
We did the Tsum Valley Trek, the Poon Hill trek, and the Australian Base Camp walk with North Nepal Treks in November 2024 and were never disappointed. Everything was perfectly organized, and we especially appreciated the flexibility and constant attention to safety, including altitude sickness management. A big thank you to Mohan, the owner, whose personal concern for our safety and enjoyment made all the difference. We always felt cared for and could fully enjoy these unforgettable treks. Highly recommended! 10/10.

Myself (33) and my father (66) went on the Poon hill trek over four days three nights. My dad was particularly interested in learning about the area, the routes and the history so we opted for a guide and a porter. Subas was an excellent porter, really friendly and helpful. Uttam stayed with us for the whole trip, his ethos he would be at the back so that we set the pace. He was incredibly knowledgeable of the area, personable, supportive and generally excellent. He was incredibly patient with my dads many questions and his English was excellent. He managed the organisation of tea houses and recommended places to stay, rest and eat. Everywhere he recommended and suggested was excellent, we managed to get hot water in our showers and comfortable rooms with warm bedding. We walked in late November, the weather was great, rose to about 20 degrees in the day, but was below 0 at night. We had prepared a first aid kit for minor ailments, but Uttam had additional items that we did not alongside the essentials. Incredibly attentive and lovely guy!
