Kumar Gurung, Trekking Guide

Our second day is filled with beautiful scenic views from the ride to Pokhara, we will take a tourist bus to get to Pokhara from Kathmandu. Sit back and enjoy the beautiful surrounding views of the landscapes and the mountains.
We will stop on the way for lunch and reach Pokhara in around 6-7 hours. We will have dinner in Pokhara and stay at a hotel in Pokhara. You can also take a flight to Pokhara which takes about 25 mins.
After having breakfast, we get on a private vehicle that will take us to Kande. It will take about one hour to reach there. From there, we begin our hike.
Our hiking starts from Kande the 6 hrs hike takes us to Bhanjhyang village located at the top with beautiful scenery. On the way, we will have lunch at Bhadaure a Gurung village.
By this route, we pass by beautifully paved stairs, scenic forests, rivers or streams, and elegant wildflowers aside. After reaching the Bhanjyang village we will have our dinner and stay overnight there.
We set out early before dawn, for our destination Panchase Viewpoint located at 2,500 m. The one-hour early morning hike takes us to the best viewpoint where we can spot the Majestic view of the Mt Annapurna, Mt Dhaulagiri, and Mt Nilgiri range. We also get a chance to witness more than 15 different mountain peaks from there. We can visit one of the religious ponds with a sacred temple.
Exploring the beauty of Panchase we return to Bhanjhyang and have lunch for the day. We descend toward Ghatichhina passing through villages like Sidhane and Dumdumey. Reaching Ghatichhina car will be there to pick us up and take us back to the hotel. This way our beautiful journey to Panchase ends here.
I would thoroughly recommend this trek for anyone who goes to Nepal and wants to get a flavour for the scenery. It’s especially ideal if you’re limited for time (as my partner and I were)
So on this occasion the trek was led by a friendly young man called Yagya. It became apparent to both myself and my parter Vicky that Yagya was exceedingly familiar with the localities having spent much of his childhood there. He was full of enthusiasm and keen to share his knowledge of the area, and the history.
The views were breathtaking throughout, taking us through forest areas, grasslands and a small number of villages where we stopped for food and supplies. These were frequent enough for us to have chance to stock for water, meals and snacks. The trek has clearly been well thought out.
Yagya was an excellent guide who clearly knew his way around without needing to rely on any navigation or map reading at any point. He kept us to a good pace whilst also allowing us more time to take photos on the second day as we descended. During the 2 days we were captivated by Yagya’s stories and the local religious beliefs. Yagya was also keen to hear about our take on spiritualism and this offered some brief deep yet memorable conversations on the second day.
The journey ended with a meal in a restaurant in Pokhara where the food was excellent and the perfect way to end the afternoon/evening.
Overall we can’t thank Yagya enough for the journey he took us on. A real memorable experience.

From here on out, we will only book through North Nepal Trek! 10/10 experience! They helped us book our domestic flights, a 3-day trek, and paragliding in Pokhara. This was our first time traveling to Nepal and North Nepal Trek exceeded all our expectations and went above and beyond to ensure our experience was both comfortable and rewarding.
First of all, this travel agency was personally recommended to us by the owner of the hotel we were staying at in Pokhara (shoutout Hotel Sarowar) and also seemed to be well known around town - so they are extremely reputable. Second of all, on the day of my boyfriend’s birthday, they surprised him with a little birthday celebration and gifts! It was truly so special! Third of all - and most importantly - they provided us with THE BEST trekking guide, Gopal!
Gopal was everything you would want for a guide and more! Not only was he extremely knowledgeable about the Himalayas, the local customs and cultures, and history of Nepal, but also seemed to have a strong rapport among the locals of the villages we stayed at. His positive, cheerful attitude was infectious and he thourougly engaged us with the people we visited and their culture. Our favorite memory with him was when he bought all the local school children snacks during their lunch break as we were passing through the village. His kindness and the smiles on all the children will be a memory that we will cherish forever. We could not be more appreciative and grateful to have had Gopal as our guide. We hope to visit Nepal and trek with Gopal again soon!!

The Panchase Trek is a short, easy trek from Pokhara that combines Himalayan views, forest trails, traditional villages and local culture. The route reaches Panchase Hill at around 2,517m and passes through peaceful countryside rather than high-altitude mountain terrain. On a clear day, you can see peaks including Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). It’s a good choice if you want a genuine Himalayan walking experience without committing to a long or demanding trek.
The standard Panchase Trek can be completed in 2 days and 1 night from Pokhara. The itinerary can also be extended if you prefer shorter walking days, more time in the villages or want to combine Panchase with another nearby hiking route. The short duration makes it particularly convenient for travellers who have limited time in Pokhara.
Panchase is considered an easy trek and doesn’t require previous trekking experience. The highest point is around 2,517m, so altitude is much less of a concern than on high-altitude Himalayan routes. You’ll still encounter uphill and downhill sections, stone steps and uneven village trails, so a basic level of fitness is useful. The route can also work well for families and older travellers who are comfortable walking several hours a day.
Yes. Panchase is one of the more accessible short treks around Pokhara and can be a good family trekking option. The relatively low elevation reduces the risk of altitude-related problems, while the forests, villages, temples and mountain scenery give children plenty to experience along the trail. The walking pace should be adjusted according to the child’s age and fitness.
October and November are among the best months for the Panchase Trek, with generally clear skies and excellent Himalayan visibility. March to May is another good season, especially if you enjoy green hills and flowering forests. Panchase can be trekked throughout the year, but the monsoon months from June to September bring more rain, cloud and slippery trails.
Yes, but expect wet conditions. Rain can make forest paths, stone steps and village trails slippery, while clouds may hide the mountain views. If clear Himalayan panoramas are your priority, autumn and spring are better choices. A waterproof jacket, backpack cover and shoes with good grip are particularly useful during the wetter months.
Yes. Cultural experience is one of the main attractions of Panchase. The route passes through villages inhabited mainly by Gurung communities, along with Brahmin settlements. You can see traditional houses, local farming practices and everyday village life while staying in or passing through these communities. A homestay can make the experience more personal.
The Panchase area is home mainly to Gurung communities, with Brahmin communities also present in parts of the route. The combination gives you an opportunity to experience different traditions, food, architecture and ways of life within a relatively short trek from Pokhara.
Yes. The Panchase area includes religious sites and temples that are important to local communities. Panchase itself has cultural and religious significance, so the trek is not only about reaching a viewpoint. Visitors should treat temples, shrines and other sacred places respectfully.
Accommodation is available in local teahouses, lodges and homestays depending on the route. The standard Panchase experience is relatively simple, with basic rooms and shared facilities rather than luxury accommodation. Meals generally include dal bhat, vegetables, noodles, eggs, soups, bread and tea, while homestays may offer opportunities to try more traditional local dishes.
Yes. Homestays are available along parts of the Panchase route and are a good option if you want to experience village life more closely. Staying with a local family can give you a better sense of everyday life, local food and Gurung culture than simply passing through the villages.
The Panchase Trek starts with a short drive from Pokhara to the trailhead, depending on the itinerary you choose. A common route begins around Kande before continuing on foot through the hills toward Panchase. Private transportation makes the trek easy to arrange as a short trip from Pokhara.
The return route depends on your chosen itinerary. After exploring Panchase, the trail descends through villages and eventually reaches a road-accessible point where transportation can be arranged back to Pokhara. Your guide or trekking company can coordinate the vehicle according to the route and walking schedule.
The risk is relatively low because Panchase reaches only around 2,517m, considerably lower than most high-altitude Himalayan treks. However, altitude affects people differently, so it’s still important to stay hydrated, walk at a comfortable pace and tell your guide if you experience unusual headache, dizziness, nausea or breathing difficulties.
No. Previous trekking experience isn’t necessary. Panchase is a good introduction to trekking in Nepal, although you should be prepared for several hours of walking and some uphill and downhill sections. Regular walking or light hiking before your trip can make the experience more comfortable.
For this short trek, you can travel light. Bring comfortable trekking shoes with good grip, a lightweight waterproof jacket, warm layers, a hat or beanie, sunscreen, sunglasses, a reusable water bottle, basic toiletries, personal medication, a small backpack and a power bank. Trekking poles can also be useful on the steeper sections, particularly when the trail is wet.
Yes. Basic trekking equipment such as trekking poles, sleeping bags, jackets and backpacks can be rented or purchased in Pokhara. Because Panchase is a short and relatively low-altitude trek, you don’t need much technical equipment.
Meal arrangements depend on the trekking package you book. A full-board package normally includes breakfast, lunch and dinner during the trek, while personal drinks, snacks and other additional purchases are usually separate. Confirm the exact inclusions with your trekking company before departure.
Keep some extra money for personal expenses such as bottled water, snacks, soft drinks, hot showers where available, charging devices and any additional transportation outside the agreed itinerary. What is included in your package can vary, so check the inclusions before departure.
WiFi availability is more limited than in Pokhara and depends on the accommodation. Some lodges and homestays may offer internet access, but you shouldn’t expect a reliable connection throughout the trail.
Charging may be available at some accommodation, but it isn’t guaranteed at every overnight stop. Since Panchase is a short trek, carrying a fully charged power bank is usually enough to keep your phone and camera running throughout the trip.
Mobile coverage varies along the route, particularly in forested and less populated sections. It’s sensible to download maps, booking information and other important details before leaving Pokhara. Carrying a power bank is also recommended.
Yes. Panchase works well with other activities around Pokhara because the trek is short. Depending on your schedule, you can combine it with sightseeing, boating, paragliding or another short hiking route. The itinerary should be planned so you’re not rushing between activities.
Yes. Panchase can be arranged as a private trek for individuals, couples, families or small groups. A private trip also gives you more flexibility with walking pace, stops, accommodation and departure time.
You may encounter different bird species, butterflies and other small wildlife along the forest sections of the trail. Larger wildlife sightings aren’t guaranteed, but the combination of forest and rural landscapes makes Panchase an enjoyable nature walk as well as a trekking route.
The trail moves through a varied landscape of forest, farmland, traditional villages, open ridges and mountain viewpoints. Rhododendron and other forest vegetation are especially attractive in spring, while clear autumn mornings can provide excellent views toward the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
Yes. Panchase offers a mix of Himalayan panoramas, forests, traditional villages, farmland and local life, so there are plenty of subjects for photography. Early morning is usually the best time for mountain photography because visibility is often clearer before clouds build up.
Yes. Panchase is easy to customize because of its short distance from Pokhara. You can adjust the walking days, starting point, accommodation and pace depending on your schedule and interests. If you want more time for photography, village visits or cultural experiences, the trek can be arranged at a slower pace.
Panchase is a short trekking route near Pokhara and doesn’t involve the restricted-area trekking requirements associated with destinations such as Upper Mustang or Manaslu. Local entry or conservation requirements can change, however, so current requirements should be confirmed when arranging your trek.
